What Webb Really Saw At The Edge of the Cosmos
The big bang theory is the most successful one in explaining the universe’s evolution so far. Many observed phenomena align with the predictions made by the big bang model. The big bang theory says that the first galaxies in the universe started forming between 500 million and 1 billion years after the universe began. The theory also predicts what these galaxies must look like.
But the James Webb Space Telescope’s observations contradict our predictions. In its Early Release Science program, Webb observed dozens of massive, highly redshifted, and dust-free blue galaxies. Astronomers have nicknamed these candidates Blue Monsters.
But what’s so special about these peculiar galaxies? How do they challenge our star formation and galaxy evolution models? Finally, and most importantly, how can we explain the nature of these Blue Monsters based on our existing models?
