Soviet Union had always been captivated with Venus for rather longer period of time because of the closeness of the planet and the features of the same.
This obsession led to the hi-tech Venera program of space missions that was conducted in between the 1960s and the 1980s. Soviets for the first time met several advancements which are still milestones in the sphere, namely the first lunar landing and the sending of images and data from Venus.
Despite the fact that the conditions on the surface of the Venus are unearthly: the atmosphere has a pressure similar to that of a mile-deep underwater, the temperature is as hot as a boiler, and clouds are, in fact, sulfuric acid, the mechanical probes, launched by the Soviet Union, proved to be vitally important for understanding the Venus’s atmosphere, geology, and climate.
Soviet science always showed interest in the planet Venus but the given reasons were not purely scientific objectives The Russians were tilted towards Venus in order to showcase their superior technology in the space race.
To them, I must note, this dedication to explore this difficult and unknown world still stays one of the most inspiring pages in human history of space exploration.
But What did the Soviet Union find when they landed on Venus in the 1970’s and 80’s ?
