The Newly Discovered π (pi) planet! What Is It All About?
Using the data from the Kepler Space Telescope, scientists at MIT have discovered a new exoplanet that goes around its parent star once every 3.14 days. Due to its unique period of revolution that coincides with the first three digits of the mathematical constant pi, the planet has earned the name pi planet.
Researchers say that the planet might not be habitable owing to its proximity to its parent star. The planet is suspected to be terrestrial just like the Earth. It is 0.95 times the size of our planet. The surface temperature is estimated to be around 400 K.
Earlier this month, signatures of potential life forms on Venus were detected. Hence, we cannot rule out the possibility of the existence of life on any planet in the universe.
