The James Webb Telescope Reveals an Ancient Structure with Three Quasars!
Quasars are also known as quasi-stellar objects and they are among the brightest and most active objects within the universe and they are brighter than galaxies in many occasions.
These being active galactic nuclei which are fed by supermassive black holes at the centre of distant galaxies; here a large amount of gas and dust is pulled by the force of the black hole. This material spirals inward and becomes heated to millions of degrees; in doing so releases radiation over the ultraviolet optical visual infrared radio and X-ray regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.
It is this radiation that defines quasars as being observable objects, and looking like extremely bright sources of light emanating from distances that seem to be billions of light-years away in the observable universe. They help astronomers in understanding the formation of galaxies in the first place, the activity of black holes and the general structure of the universe. They are also very bright so they also serve as beacons in space, affecting the region that lies between the galaxies and giving out useful data on the intergalactic plasma.
Would you have ever believed that the new space telescope would bring us so many groundbreaking discoveries? The James Webb Telescope has now even found an ancient structure that houses a quasar trio!
