Something Terrible Happened 2 Minutes After The Dinosaurs Went Extinct
Dinosaurs endured the worst day of their lives 69 million years ago. A cataclysmic asteroid strike brought an end to a reign that had lasted 180 million years. No one could have predicted the disaster. Dinosaurs stalked one other for almost 170 million years, munching on lush greens.
On a typical Late Cretaceous day, pterosaurs flew through the sky, mosasaurs splashed in the waters, and tiny mammals scurried through the forest. The world then abruptly transformed. A 6-mile-wide chunk of extraterrestrial rock slammed into what would later become Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
The shock was like a gunshot on a grand scale. A new Earth was born after that. Looking up at the sky sixty-nine million years ago, you might have seen what appeared to be a star if you were standing in North America.
However, after an hour or two of watching, the star would appear to have increased in brightness, even though it was stationary.
