Something Happened On Betelgeuse Caught By Hubble!
One of the most eagerly anticipated astronomical events is the supernova of Betelgeuse.
In the constellation of Orion, the red supergiant star Betelgeuse is nearing the end of its life.
The star will eventually implode, and for several weeks, even during the day, our skies will be illuminated by the event’s aftermath.
Nobody is exactly sure when the star will go supernova, though.
Betelgeuse might have already imploded, but as it is 650 light years away, we haven’t yet seen the results of that event.
One of the night sky’s brightest stars is called Betelgeuse. But it mysteriously began to wane in the latter part of 2019.
One might even see the dimming with their unaided eyes because it was so obvious.
For several months, the star’s brightness diminished, and observers questioned whether Betelgeuse had reached the end of its life.
After a few months, though, the red supergiant star’s brilliance returned to normal.
Astronomers were astounded to discover the cause of the Great Dimming when they focused some of the most potent telescopes on it.
So what transpired to the star as it dimmed before our very eyes? Why was this occurrence for Betelgeuse so disastrous? The James Webb Space Telescope will be pointed toward this dying star for several reasons, but the most crucial is why.
