Scientists Terrifying New Discovery Hidden In Australia
The most massive impact crater by an asteroid, about 66 million years ago, is said to have occurred at the Chicxulub site. This enormous asteroid which is thought to be about 10 kilometers (6 miles) across hit the area of the present day Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico forming a crater of over 150 kilometers (93) in diameter.
The shock freed an enormous amount of energy, just as billions of atomic bombs, which flattened everything in its path.
This event created the widely accepted hypothesis that the Chicxulub impact was the main cause for the mass extinction event that resulted in the non-avian dinosaurs’ extinction alongside 70% of the invertebrate animals. The effect would have resulted into massive fires, the nuclear winter types of a situation whereby debris and dust block out the sun and ecosystem and climatic shifts.
This occurrence is considered one of the most critical breaking points in the history of Earth’s geology and life, creating a path for mammals and humans.
