Plasma – the most common state of matter

Plasma is the most common state of matter in the universe. We don’t see it that often in our day-to-day life, at least a lot less than the main three states: solid, liquid, and gas. Despite this, it is still an incredibly useful state of matter, which we can use in the manufacturing of technology.

This is due to the amazing qualities that arise from matter being in the plasma state. Namely, that the matter is a gas of ionized charges, which affords the ability to interact with atoms and charges nearby. It is this interaction that leads to plasma’s ability to clean.

Beyond this plasma looks to be a crucial state of matter for future technology in both space travel and the energy sector. The first relates to building plasma thrusters, which are incredibly efficient when it comes to fuel sources. The second is the key to unlocking fusion reactors, which are hot balls of plasma, just like the sun.
