New Planets Are Being Discovered Beyond Neptune! But Have You Ever Heard of Them?
They are celestial bodies that share characteristics of the major planets which are the eight planets of the solar system but do not meet all the parameters [criteria].
From the International Astronomical Union that proposed the definition of a dwarf planet in 2006 a dwarf planet is classified as an object that orbits the sun, has sufficient mass to assume a nearly round shape and has not cleared the surrounding space of other objects. Planets are in the planetary system, but dwarf planets are in regions like the Kuiper Belt – this is beyond Neptune and contains many icy bodies.
The closest dwarf planet to most folks is Pluto that until 2006 was regarded as the ninth planet in the solar system.
Others more dwarf planets that are also recognized include; Eris, located in the outskirts beyond Neptune, Haumea, Makemake are other dwarf planets that are recognized in the solar system while Ceres, another dwarf planet is in the asteroid belt in between Mars and Jupiter.
But, small size of dwarf planets make them scientifically valuable mainly because they allow scientists to understand how the solar system was formed and evolved. The result of their work helps astronomers studying the actions of some planetary objects and main conception that explain the environment of the Earth.
