NASA’s New Game-Changing Telescope Beats James Webb In Studying Dark Matter
A revolutionary new space telescope by NASA, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, scheduled to launch in May 2027, to focus on the star streams that orbit Andromeda. These star streams have gaps between them, and what do you think scientists surmise exists in the dark space between these streams? Dark matter!
Imagine a beautiful ribbon of stars winding around the twinkling Milky Way galaxy, wrapping around it. Sounds beautiful, right? Well, what if you were told such ribbons actually exist in our Universe, and now a new telescope might just help us see such streams! Such stellar streams are usually known to orbit galaxies.
These are tendrils which have been pulled apart from globular clusters, and stretched out along their orbit by tidal forces.
Hence these stellar bands are also called tidal streams or globular cluster streams. And now NASA will be sending a special telescope to study the mysterious matter that exists between these tidal streams. Why is the study of this mysterious matter so essential to scientists?
