Kuiper Belt is located in space in form of a ring which is situated outside Neptune and extends between 30 and 55 astronomic units away from the sun.

It also contains numerous comparatively tiny icy bodies, which have formed during the creation of the Solar System, so it is like the asteroid belt, but greater and heavier The Kuiper belt is also home to countless objects, including Pluto, Haumea, Makemake and others, as well as dwarfs, comets and numerous other formations of ice.

These objects are mainly made up of ices of compounds like methane, ammonia and water and such analysis of the objects were used as foundation to explain the formation of the solar system.

Regarding the comets, the Kuiper Belt is considered to be the source of short-lived comets with the period of less than 200 years. This is where the story of formation of the solar system and processes leading to formation of planets and other celestial bodies is written and therefore there is need to have some knowledge of this region if one is interested in the history of formation of our system.

Even more study of the Kuiper belt with such missions like New Horizons constantly provides more and more interesting information and data about this area of the sky which is very distant and practically unstudied.

Since we began exploring space, we’ve been looking farther out in the solar system to see what’s there, and in 1992 we discovered the Kuiper Belt; an icy cold and dim region beyond Neptune’s orbit.
