Just in: NASA Has Found Oceans of Liquid Water on Mars…For Real
Recently, NASA’s researchers detected the salinity of the liquid water in the Martian crust consisting of rocks and metals at the depth of twelve kilometres. Attached to a lander that touched down on Mars in August 2018, the station was designed to record vibrations in the planet and Martian quakes for four years.
Through analysis of these seismal indications, the researchers pointed to the existence of the evidence of liquid water on Mars for the first time. These researches are reported in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The Insight mission, which came to its end in December of 2022, worked to ‘listen’ to the seismic activity of Mars and documented well over a thousand quakes.
A huge reservoir of water has been found on Mars. is so large that it could cover the entire planet with water up to a depth of 1 to 2 kilometers or about a mile.
The discover was made after analysing years of data from NASA’s InSight Mars mission. This finding has solved a long-standing mystery about Mars—what happened to all the water?
