It’s the Same Universe Again! The JWST Discovers Strange Galaxies That Are Older than the Big Bang!
Peculiar galaxies also known as strange galaxies are astronomical formations that do not fall under any of the three major groupings of spiral, elliptical and irregular galaxies. These galaxies are morphologically peculiar as a result of having been affected by other galaxies through gravitational forces or a merger with them. An example of interacting galaxies is the Antennae Galaxies which are two galaxies that are gravitationally bound undergoing a process of merging; This creates a system of galaxies with a combination of stars, gases and dust in a state of disarray.
The next example which resembles this description is the Sombrero Galaxy that has a bright nucleus and a wide halo of glowing stars and dark matter that makes the galaxy look like a sombrero hat.
Some peculiar galaxies such as the Cartwheel Galaxy exhibit rings which are the shock fronts originating from mergers. , such interactions cause vigorous star formation and numerous stars are born within a short time.
Observing peculiar galaxies is extremely helpful to gain certain knowledge about the activity that forms the universe and the details of the gravitational forces that determine the history of galaxies.
But it is the same universe again! John Mather is one of the scientists who, despite the evidence, refuse to believe that the universe is possibly infinite!
