Gravitational Wave Background Discovered – Spacetime is Vibrating!
These are astrophysical phenomena arising from accelerated mass like merging black hole or neutron stars. These waves were predicted in 1915 by Einstein in his theory of General relativity and were first observed in 2015 by Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO).
This monumental discovery offered a proof thereby establishing Einstein again and issued a challenge to the field of astronomy and opened a new door through which people could look and investigate the universe. Lensing and electromagnetic analog of wave signals are not enough to gather information about the source and characteristics of gravitational waves.
This makes them a good means of studying quite often the most fantastic and enshrouded aspects of the universe). The effort to find out the gravitational waves already provide information about the properties of black holes, behavior of neutron star and impact of massive stars merger.
In the future as detectors become even more sensitive and other observatories keep joining the current ones, the more the field of gravitational wave astronomy will have to explain the nature of the universe and shed even more light on fundamental physics.
The discovery of gravitational waves has supported most of the important postulations of Einstein’s theory while also providing evincible evidence for the development of scientific instruments and the ingenuity of scientists in exploration of new frontiers of the universe.
