Evidence of new unconventional double topological superconductor
Superconductivity is touted to revolutionize many elements of the modern world; however, it is limited in applications due to the strict temperature and pressure environments that are required to achieve this state of matter. An exciting new path is to investigate topological superconductors.
This is a different phase of matter that is confined to the surface of the material. There are potential benefits to this type of superconductor, as it is resilient to defects in the bulk and may offer a pathway to realize room-temperature ambient conditions superconductivity.
We discuss the background and results of a new breakthrough in topological superconductors
[1]. While room temperature superconductors have been realized
[2] they require such high pressures that they are unviable for many applications. Perhaps this type of superconductor will remove these current restrictions.
