Caught on Camera: A huge volcanic eruption triggered tsunami waves across the Pacific Ocean. The eruption of the Hunga Tonga volcano caused an earthquake of 5.8 magnitudes.
The initial eruption occurred on 20 December 2021, causing a large plume. The volcanic explosions could be heard up to 170 kilometers (110 mi) away. Volcanic activity died down on 5 January before restarting on 13 January.
Then on 15 January, the volcano erupted seven times more powerfully than the first eruption.
