The Big Misconception About Electricity
What is the main energy carrier in the electrical current that flows through the circuit?
We are often taught that it is electrons. They move around the circuit, transferring their potential energy directly to the energy-consuming device. But this explanation is not correct, at least not entirely.
Just think about how energy reaches us from the power station, where it is generated. There is no single cable connecting our homes with the energy producing companies. Actually, there are a lot of gaps in the electrical grid, where the circuit is interrupted by an open space. This happens in transformers, for instance. Electrons cannot flow through this gap, or can they?
