The black hole known as Phoenix A* is 100 billion times as massive as the Sun yet is still considered to be one of the biggest black holes out there. The mass of the system controls movements of galaxies within the cluster region and the hot gas in the space that is central to the activity of the Phoenix Cluster.

This is a black hole millions of times more massive than the Sun which releases X-rays as it goes on accreting matter from around it and heating it to millions of degrees.

Hence, the results of Phoenix A* study are important for understanding processes that govern the growth of SMBH and their relation with galaxies. Obviously due to its large size and dominance it is an intriguing target in its own right its study also assists scientists to learn more about the conditions at the centers of galaxy clusters.
