Is it possible for this particle to exceed the speed of light, thereby unlocking the secret to time travel?
The scientific community values the tachyon particle greatly because it has not been proven to exist in real life. The idea of a particle that could move faster than light was originally conceived by Albert Einstein in 1905, although he termed these hypothetical particles ‘tachyons’. The discovery of tachyon has remained a mystery for years and an article in Discover Magazine has revived the issue.
At present, no object can move faster than the speed of light. This implies that light has no mass hence light is able to remain small as it continues to speed up. On the other hand, objects gain mass as they accelerate and they do not have enough energy to travel at the speed of light.
Therefore, all objects in our known universe move at sub-light velocities and any cause within this domain happens within the speed of light. However, the tachyon, should it be real, would go against this norm because it goes faster than the speed of light.
According to the theory, a tachyon should move at a constant velocity that is faster than the speed of light, and should not be able to decelerate. Today, this remains a difficult problem that science still cannot solve.
But here is the exciting part where time travel intervenes. If you were to be able to travel faster than the light you can transfer them faster than time hence being able to post a message at what could be considered to have been posted before the event that it is meant to refer to.
That communication could then reach you before you even proceeded to think of sending off the first message. Well, it is a little hard to understand it.
This argument is Sound: According to the Discover report, the question underlying this theoretical particle is whether its time travel part is merely unconfirmed and therefore inconceivable or simply non-existent. And not only do we need to find answers to the faster than light question, it is also another question because at the moment, our universe has no way to go anywhere except forwards.
It is only necessary to work out both of those possibilities in such a way that the idea tachyon could both go back in time and faster than the speed of light as well.
