Are Pilot Wave & Many Worlds THE SAME Theory?

The pilot wave theory, also known as the de Broglie-Bohm theory or Bohmian mechanics, is an interpretation of quantum mechanics that offers an alternative way to understand the behavior of quantum systems. This theory was developed in the 1920s and 1950s by Louis de Broglie and David Bohm, respectively.

It is one of several interpretations of quantum mechanics, with the Copenhagen interpretation being the most widely accepted.

In the pilot wave theory, quantum particles such as electrons are described as having both a particle-like and a wave-like nature. In addition to the wave function (a mathematical description of the probability distribution of a particle’s position), each particle is also associated with a “pilot wave.” This pilot wave guides the motion of the particle as it evolves through time.

It’s hard to interpret the strange results of quantum mechanics, though many have tried. Interpretations range from the outlandish—like the multiple universes of Many Worlds, to the almost mundane, like the very mechanical Pilot Wave Theory.

But perhaps we’re converging on an answer, because some are arguing that these two interpretations are really the same thing.
