Size of The Largest Black Hole Ever
Black holes are the most powerful objects in the universe. But one stands out as the biggest black hole ever found in the known universe. That’s called TON 618.
TON 618 is a distant quasar located in the constellation Canes Venatici. Quasars are extremely luminous objects powered by supermassive black holes at the centers of galaxies. TON 618 is one of the most massive and luminous quasars known, with an estimated black hole mass of around 66 billion times that of the Sun.
TON 618 is also notable for its high redshift, which means that it is located very far away from us and we are observing it as it appeared when the universe was much younger. Its redshift is estimated to be around 4.5, which corresponds to a distance of about 10 billion light-years from Earth.
Studies of TON 618 have provided insights into the early universe and the formation and evolution of supermassive black holes.
